Milot Thaçi, MD

Milot Thaqi, MD, Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Missouri, is a Minimally Invasive, Bariatric, and Robotic Surgeon at MU Health Care in Columbia, Missouri. Dr. Thaqi leads resident education in robotic surgery, contributes to quality improvement initiatives, and plays an active role in expanding access to innovative surgical platforms across the health system. He is a frequent speaker at institutional surgical conferences and Grand Rounds, where he presents on surgical innovation, education, and minimally invasive techniques. He is also a key member of the MU General Surgery Research Group and is involved in multi-institutional collaborations to improve outcomes in metabolic and robotic surgery.
Dr. Thaqi serves on the Research Committee of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and is the co-principal investigator of a TREO Foundation/ASMBS- funded randomized controlled trial evaluating the use of GLP-1 agonists following bariatric surgery. He is a published author of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and original research in the fields of surgical education, minimally invasive hernia repair, and enhanced recovery protocols. He remains actively involved in surgical education at both the medical student and residency levels, mentoring trainees through research, clinical skills development, and career planning. He is an engaged member of multiple hospital and academic committees and participates in national professional societies related to general and bariatric surgery. Dr. Thaqi, is a native of the Midwest. He earned his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Missouri and went on to pursue a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive, Bariatric, and Robotic Surgery at Yale University. He is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
