Dr. Sharique Nazir, MD, FACS, FICS, FASMBS, is a nationally recognized, board-certified bariatric and robotic surgeon known for his clinical excellence, academic contributions, and visionary leadership. He currently serves as the Chief of Bariatric and Robotic Surgery and Assistant Chairman of Surgery at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. In addition, he holds a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he is actively engaged in surgical education and innovation.
With dual fellowships in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery from NYU Lutheran Medical Center and Carolinas Medical Center, Dr. Nazir brings a depth of expertise to complex metabolic and gastrointestinal disorders. He has successfully launched and expanded Harlemâs robotic surgery program, trained multiple surgeons in advanced techniques, and performed over 1,000 robotic cases to date.
Dr. Nazir is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the International College of Surgeons (FICS), and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS). He is the current President of the International College of Surgeons, U.S. Section, and also leads the U.S. Chapter of the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons. As a Clinical Reviewer for the American College of Surgeons MBSAQIP program, he plays a critical role in evaluating and accrediting bariatric centers nationwide to ensure the highest standards of safety and care.
His scholarly work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, international podium presentations, and editorial contributions as Sub-Editor of International Surgery, the flagship journal of the International College of Surgeons. His recent academic efforts have focused on minimally invasive techniques, global surgery outreach, and innovation in foregut disease management.
Dr. Nazir also serves as an Honorary Police Surgeon for both the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the New York State Troopers, underscoring his longstanding commitment to public service and community well-being.
