Nicolas Demartines

Professor Nicolas Demartines is an internationally recognized surgeon specializing in hepato-biliary, pancreatic, and cancer surgery. From 2006 to 2022, he chaired the Department of Visceral Surgery at CHUV, Lausanne, subsequently serving as Chair of the Department of Surgery (2019–2022) and Co-president of CHUV’s Multidisciplinary Cancer Centers. Alongside his core expertise in HPB surgery, he has significantly contributed to surgical innovation, perioperative medicine, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols, and medical process analysis—achieving considerable reductions in complications, hospital stay, and healthcare costs through optimized patient management systems. Professor Demartines is extensively involved in academic surgery as Honorary Fellow of prestigious international surgical societies, IRACD faculty and course director since 1995, and invited professor at leading institutions worldwide.
