Dr. Agim Sharku was born on June 20, 1950, in Dibra, Macedonia. From 1957 to 1964, he completed his primary education in Dibra, and from 1965 to 1969, he finished high school in Dibra. He enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine in Prishtina in 1969/1975 and graduated on December 22, 1975. After graduation, he began his mandatory medical internship at the âIsa Grezdaâ Medical Center in Gjakova, and later worked as a general practitioner at the same center from 1977 to 1979.
In April 1979, he started his specialization in general surgery at the Surgery Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK). He completed his final year of specialization at the Medical University in Zagreb, at the Mladen Stojanovic Clinic on October 15, 1982. In the same year, he also completed the first part of his postgraduate studies in Zagreb.
After graduating in 1982, he began working as a surgeon at the Surgery Clinic in Prishtina. In 1983, he was accepted as an elected assistant in the subject of surgery (on leave) until his retirement in 2015. His master’s thesis, titled “Modalities of Treating Gastrointestinal Ulcer as an Abdominal Emergency,” was defended in 2007 at the Faculty of Medicine in Prishtina.
On August 20, 1990, Serbian forces removed him from his job through violent measures. From February 14, 1996, until June 30, 1999, he worked as a surgeon at the Medical Center Hospital in Dibra.
In July 1999, he returned to QKUK to the Abdominal Surgery Clinic in Prishtina, where he worked until his retirement on June 20, 2015. During this time, he served as the head of Abdominal Surgery Unit A and the head of Surgical Specialist Clinics. In 1989, he was appointed as an assistant in the subject of surgery, where he contributed significantly to advancing new surgical professionals. He has published several professional and scientific papers.
After retirement, Dr. Sharku worked at the Turkish âMillenniumâ Hospital until 2018, and from November 1, 2018, he was employed at âRoyalâ Hospital until 2020. Currently, he has been working at Kavaja Hospital since September 20, 2021, where he continues to practice his profession.
