Second Edition of the Course on Basic Education of Surgical Residents

The second edition of the “Basic Skills in Surgery” course was designed to enhance interactive learning and hands-on experience for residents. Modeled after the American College of Surgeons’ curriculum, the course was held in ten sessions covering 12 modules. The consistent coordinator for the course remained Prof. Dr. Sadri Bajraktari.

The sessions included:

• Asepsis and identification of surgical instruments: Dr. Astrit Hamza;
• Infection control and prevention in surgery: Dr. Jehona Krasniqi Zhuti;
• Joint ligation in surgery: Dr. Hysni Jashari;
• Sutures in surgery: Dr. Liridona Guci;
• Wound Closure and Skin Flaps & Skin Grafts: Dr. Ylber Zejnullahu;
• Postoperative wound care and chronic wound care: Dr. Laura Leci Tahiri;
• Suture in surgery – practice: Dr. Laura Leci Tahiri;
• Thoracic drainage: Dr. Bedri Osmani;
• Establishment of peritoneal dialysis: Dr. Lulzim Vokrri;
• Acute urinary retention – Dr. Ardian Prenaj
• Cystostomy and Cystofix Placement: Dr. Ardit Nela;
• Porth-A Cath Placement: Dr. Lulzim Vokrri

Conclusion

The Basic Education Course for Surgical Residents in 2024 was a resounding success, equipping participants with critical skills and knowledge. The Kosova College of Surgeons remains committed to advancing surgical education and training, ensuring excellence in the next generation of surgeons. Plans for further development of these courses are in place to enhance their effectiveness and impact.
