Selman Uranues, MD, Dr.(hon), FACS(hon), FEBS(hon)

Dr. Selman Uranues has acquired an international reputation based on his expertise in minimally invasive surgery, as well as visceral traumatology and acute care surgery. His early interest in surgical research coincided with the dawn of the age of laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery and he was one of its early advocates, proceeding from experimental studies to ever more demanding clinical applications with ever smaller instruments and increasingly sophisticated techniques, including virtual reality and robotics.
International experience including visiting professorships rather in all continents and intensive activity in leading national and international professional societies have secured Dr. Uranues an outstanding network in the surgical community.

In 2007, he coordinated the merger of the European Trauma Society (ETS) and the European Association for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (EATES) to form the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES), of which he was the first president. In the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery he served as Chairman of the Education and Training Committee as well as the Scientific Program Committee and presided over the Association’s Congress in Vienna in 2013. He has been elected to the presidency of the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC) for the period of 2011 to 2013.

He is also a member of the Board of Directors of World Coalition for Trauma Care. Dr.Uranues is honorary member of the Serbian Society of Surgery, 2002, of the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES), 2017, and of the Turkish Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery, 2019. He received Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC), 2013. He is honorary Fellow of the European Board of Surgery (FEBS). Dr.Uranues is honorary member of the American College of Surgeons and of the American Surgical Association.
