Asst. Dr. Bedri Bakalli was born on June 15, 1942 in Gjakova. He finished primary and secondary school in Gjakova. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in 1968 at the University of Zagreb. He finished his specialist exam in Belgrade in October 1975.
In March 1969, he was employed in the Department of Orthopedics at the General Hospital of Pristina, as the first Albanian doctor in the field of Orthopedics and Traumatology in Kosova. He completed the last eighteen months of his specialization in Belgrade, at the Orthopedics Clinic of the University Hospital and at the “Banjica” Special Hospital for Orthopedics and Traumatology.
In 1976 he was appointed Head of the Department of Traumatology of the locomotor system, a task he exercised regularly and successfully until his retirement at the end of 2007. From 1976 he was an Assistant/lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, on the subject of Orthopedics and Traumatology, until 2007.
During his career, he performed over 5,000 major surgical interventions in the locomotor system and countless conservative interventions. Being among the first orthopedists in Kosova, he also had the task of passing on knowledge and skills to future generations of orthopedists who were formed over the years in Kosova. His contribution was also great in the treatment of the wounded during all periods of repression against our people, starting from the demonstrations of 1981 until the liberation war. The primary objective of Dr. Bakalli always was and remained the protection of the patient’s health and according to him, this is the main reason for the respect he has gained during the years of his career among the population of Kosova.
