Barbara Cvenkel, MD, Ph.D., is the author of many articles on glaucoma and ocular surface published in international journals and Slovenian medical journals. Her main interests are the assessment of ocular surface after long-term topical treatment and glaucoma surgery, and the use of imaging technology in glaucoma. With coauthors, she investigated the morphological changes of trabecular meshwork after selective laser trabeculoplasty and IOP lowering the efficacy of SLT as adjuvant therapy in glaucoma patients and recently pharmacogenetics in glaucoma. To improve diagnostics and management of glaucoma in Slovenia she has published guidelines for the treatment of glaucoma and is a co-author of the European Glaucoma Society Guidelines for Glaucoma.
Since 2002 professor at the Medical Faculty of Ljubljana. She is the head of the Glaucoma Unit at the Department of Ophthalmology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, president of the Slovenian Glaucoma Society, and president of the Slovenian Ophthalmological Society. She is the national coordinator for residents at the Medical Chamber of Slovenia and a member of the Executive Committee of the European Board of Ophthalmology.
