Mission:

This Committee’s mission is to address issues of resident education in surgery, including the educational environment, characteristics of the resident population, graduate surgical education curricular issues and competency issues. Goals of Committee for Residency are:

-To comprehensively address the educational needs of surgical residents from across the surgical disciplines;

-To support educational efforts to facilitate the transition from medical school to residency training and from residency training into practice;

-To play a pivotal role in designing and implementing new and innovative educational programs to address the general competencies in residency programs;

-To make available a spectrum of innovative educational programs and materials to surgery residents;

-To address the milieu of residency education to ensure the best educational experiences for residents and optimum educational outcomes;

-To offer fellowships and courses in surgical education to residents;

-To help residency programs to fulfill the current and future accreditation requirements;

-To implement educational programs to address the educational and administrative needs of residency program directors, in collaboration with the respective program director organizations;

-To coordinate educational activities with various national program director organizations to achieve common goals and optimum outcomes;

-To monitor the outcomes of specific educational programs.

Activities:

Plans for 2024:

Organization of the basic skills course in surgery for the new group of residents (the same modules as in 2023)

Organization of Workshops and/or courses for laparoscopy and microsurgery (specifically for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery residents, as well as those of Maxillofacial Surgery).
