Prof. Dr. Arben Beqiri

Prof. Dr. Arben Beqiri, Vice-President of the Kosova College of Surgeons, graduated in general medicine at the University of Tirana, Faculty of Medicine where he completed his specialization during the years 1990-1993.

From 1993 until now Dr. Beqiri is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Medicine as well as a Surgeon at the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa”. He was a lecturer in the Department of Abdominal Surgery at the University of Medicine in Tirana and at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda MD, USA, Grand Rounds on Surgery in Albania in January 2005.

During his professional development, Dr. Beqiri was the first who introduced therapeutic endoscopy in the emergency service of digestive surgery with the help and support of the Albanian Health Fund. In addition, he has introduced new techniques and methods of mini-invasive laparoscopic surgery in Albania. Also, Dr. Beqiri has performed for the first time in Albania these methods of treatment: Endoscopic gastrointestinal polypectomy, bipolar cauterization for the treatment of digestive hemorrhages, gastrostomy and percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy, ERCP, laparoscopic treatment of ovarian cysts with 100 cases series, laparoscopic treatment of inguinal hernia (TAPP).

Dr. Beqiri has numerous grants and research experiences and some of them include: Grant, from Fullbright which was administered by the US Department of State, where his field of study was, “Laparoscopic Surgery of the Colon and Rectum”, at National Naval Medical Center. Another experience he had was at the Catholic University of Leuven, where the topic of the study was, “Free Research on Colorectal Surgery and an Update on Laparoscopic Surgery and its Applications.

Dr. Beqiri is the co-author of several publications and presentations and a member of several important surgical societies.

Besides Albanian language, Dr. Beqiri also speaks 4 foreign languages ​​fluently including: English, Italian and French.
