Prof. Dr. Güralp Onur Ceyhan

Prof. Dr. Güralp Onur Ceyhan was born in 1974, Ankara. Prof. Dr Güralp Onur Ceyhan graduated from Medicine School WWU Münster in 2002 and completed his MD thesis study “Administration of magnesium reduces the severity of cerulein induced acute pancreatitis and premature activation of proteases in isolated acini cells” in 2003, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Markus Lerch at the Department of Gastroenterology, University of Münster. Following success in Münster, he has maintained his studies at the European Pancreatic Centre in the Section Pancreatic Molecular Biology and Surgery at the University of Heidelberg under the supervision of Prof. Dr Helmut Friess. Here he has established his pioneering work with the neuro-cancer interactions in pancreatic cancer. Between 2007-2018, he was appointed as principal investigator of the “Pancreatic Neuropathy and Pain” division at the Pancreatic Research Center at the Department of Surgery at the Klinikum Rechts der Isar, Technical University of Munich, Germany. Since 2014 he was also leading the entire Pancreatic Research Center, was head of the hepato-pancreatico-biliary surgery unit and the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery. Prof. Dr Güralp Onur Ceyhan’s main reaserch focus was concentrated on neuro-cancer and neuro-immune interactions in pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis. He and his team have established the term Pancreatic Neuropathy and characterized the neuropathic pain sensation in pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis patients. He published more than 100 articles with a total impact factor 565, over 3000 citations and a H-index of 33. In 2010, he was proudly selected as one of the members of the “Academy of Excellence (Exzellenzakademie)” in academic general surgery in Germany. In 2019, he returned to his country to join the Acıbadem Group as the chair of the hepato-pancreatico-biliary surgery unit.
