Dr. Safet Beqiraj

Dr. Safet Beqiraj was born on May 22, 1955 in Koshare, Ferizaj. He completed primary school in Koshare and high school in Ferizaj. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Pristina in 1978. He completed his specialization in Thoracic Surgery in Belgrade in 1984.

He worked in the Department of Thoracic Surgery in Pristina from 1984 to 1988. In 1985 he completed the postgraduate course in Thoracic Surgery and in 1986 the intensive course in Flexible Bronchoscopy in Golnik (Slovenia). During the years 1988-1989 he stayed in Heidelberg (Germany) for subspecialization. In 1989 he returned to work in Thoracic Surgery, but in 1990 he was fired from his job by the Serbian regime. During the years 1990-1992 in Ferizaj, Dr. Beqiraj, was involved in the establishment of the humanitarian association “Mother Teresa” and also opened the private polyclinic “Thorax-Medicus”. From 1981 to 1998 he worked as an Assistant in Surgery. In 1997 he defended his doctoral thesis and in 1998 he was elected a Docent of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine in Prishtina.

In June 1999, he returned to the Clinic of Surgery in the Department of Thoracic Surgery and was the first leader of the Emergency Center. Dr. Beqiraj, among others, was also elected Vice-Dean for Health and Specialization at the Faculty of Medicine, Pristina. During the years 2001-2002, he was the Executive Director at UCCK. From 2003, he has worked at the Dr. Horst-Schmidt Clinic in Wiesbaden, Germany, and from 2009 onwards as head of Thoracic Oncology Surgery at Kerckhoff Klinik gGmbH, Bad Nauheim, Germany.

He passed away in his hometown on February 22, 2020.
