George E. Sarris, MD, PhD, FACC, FACS, FAHA, FCTS, FETCS

George E. Sarris, MD, Ph.D., FACC, FACS, FAHA, FCTS, FETCS is the Director of Athens Heart Surgery Institute and Chief of the Department of Pediatric Heart Surgery at Mitera Children’s Hospital, Athens, Greece.

Dr. Sarris is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Medical School, and of the joint Harvard – MIT Doctoral Program in Health Sciences and Technology.  He has a Ph.D. degree in Medicine from the University of Athens, Greece.

He has trained in Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School, and in General Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiovascular Research, and Heart and Lung Transplantation, all at Stanford University. A Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, he subspecialized in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Emory University and has served as Attending Staff in Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Having returned to his native Greece, he has established and directed state – of – the art Pediatric Cardiac Surgery tertiary care units focusing on both clinical excellence, participating in the voluntary surgical results data verification program of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Association Congenital Database, and in development of active clinical research.

Dr. Sarris is President of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Association (ECHSA) and has served in the leadership of other major international scientific societies.

He has delivered numerous presentations and lectures in international scientific meetings and has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
