Prof. Dr. Agron Pustina

Prof. Dr. Agron Pustina was born on October 15, 1944, in Tirana, Albania. He completed primary school and high school in Skopje. Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje “St. Cyril and Methodius” in 1967.

 As a newly graduated doctor, he was first employed at Saint Pierre Hospital, Brussels. He completed his specialist education at the Orthopedics Clinic at the University Clinical Center in Skopje. After completing his specialization in the field of Orthopedics in Skopje, in 1971, he moved to the Orthopedic Clinic in Pristina, where he was also involved in the teaching process, starting his academic career as an Assistant, then a Docent, Associate Professor, and full Professor of Surgery and Orthopedics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Pristina. In 1975, at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb, he completed his Master’s Degree with the title: “The contribution of the Ligamentum Terres to the Blood supply in the head of the Femur in Children with Congenital Dislocation”, continuing at the same Faculty in 1980 with the defense of the doctoral thesis entitled: “Dynamics of Vascular Change in the Upper Femur in Children with Congenital Dislocation of the Hip”.

At the beginning of the 90s, due to the discriminatory policy of the Serbian regime, like many of his Albanian colleagues, he was forced out of work and continued to practice his professional work in the private polyclinic “Acta Orthopaedica”. During the period 1990-1999, he continued teaching under exceptional conditions, as a Professor in the subject of Orthopedics and Traumatology, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Pristina. In 1994, at the Faculty of Medicine in Prishtina, he received the title of Professor of the subject of Orthopedics and Traumatology. Prof. Dr. Agron Pustina was one of the founders of the Department of Orthopedics and at the same time the leader of the Orthopedics Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosova.

He was the Director of the Orthopedic Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosova and one of the founders of the Orthopedic Association of Kosova.

After the war, namely after 1999, for a long time he was the Head of the Board for Continuing Professional Education in the Ministry of Health of Kosova. mentored and co-mentored master’s and doctoral subjects in the field of postgraduate medical studies and mentored a large number of candidates in specialized professional education at the Clinic of Orthopedics and Traumatology. He also participated in international congresses and symposia as an invited speaker and published a number of scientific papers.

 He passed away on September 8, 2021, in Pristina.
