Prof. Dr. Arben Gjata

Prof. Dr. Arben Gjata, born on May 15, 1960, in Tirana, Albania, completed his undergraduate studies at Tirana University, Albania, where he pursued a degree in medicine from 1980 to 1985. Following that, he embarked on a postgraduate specialization in general surgery from 1986 to 1988.

In 1996, Prof. Gjata obtained his PhD in Surgery from the Medicine Faculty at Tirana University. To further expand his expertise, he engaged in professional continuing education at Westfalische-Wilhelm University in Muenster, Germany, from 1992 to 1994. He also underwent professional formation at Butherworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, USA, in 1998.

Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Arben Gjata held various positions in both academic and clinical settings. From 1985 to 1992, he served as a surgeon and lecturer at Tirana University’s Medicine Faculty and Hospital No. 2. Subsequently, from 1994 to 1997, he worked as a surgeon at the University Hospital Centre “Mother Teresa” in Tirana, Albania.

In 1997, Prof. Gjata assumed the role of surgeon and lecturer at the Medicine Faculty of Tirana University, continuing his affiliation with the University Hospital Centre “Mother Teresa.” He went on to become the medical director of the hospital from 2002 to 2005 and resumed his position as a surgeon and lecturer until 2015.

Prof. Dr. Arben Gjata’s dedication to academia led him to serve as the Vice Rector of the University of Medicine in Tirana from 2013 to 2015. Since 2015, he holds the position of Rector at the University of Medicine in Tirana, further cementing his commitment to the advancement of medical education.

In addition to his professional engagements, Prof. Gjata is an active member of several esteemed organizations, including “The Albanian Society of General Surgery,” the South Eastern Europe Hospital Infection Control Group, and the International Association of Surgery, Gastro-Enterology, and Oncology.

Prof. Dr. Arben Gjata possesses multilingual proficiency and is fluent in English, German, Italian, and French. His remarkable contributions to the field of medicine, both as a surgeon and an educator, have solidified his reputation as a respected and accomplished professional.
