Prof. Dr. Hajredin Ukelli

Prof. Dr. Hajredin Ukelli was born on March 15, 1936 in Shajkofc of Podujeva. He completed primary school in his hometown and high school in Pristina. After finishing high school, he enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje.

After finishing the Faculty, he was employed at the General Hospital in Pristina and founded the first Health House in PodujevĂ«. He specialized in Children’s Surgery, together with Children’s Orthopedics, at the Children’s Surgery Clinic in Belgrade in 1971. As the founder of Children’s Surgery in Pristina, he leads the department where complicated surgical interventions are performed in this field. With the opening of the Faculty of Medicine, he was elected Assistant, in 1980 he was elected Docent, in 1985 he was elected Associate Professor and in 1993 he received the title of Ordinary Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Pristina. During the period from 1986-1996, he served as the Head of the Department of Surgery. During many years of work, he held the following positions: Deputy director and acting director of the Surgery Clinic in Pristina, Chief of Children’s Surgery from the establishment until the day of his dismissal from work in 1990.

He has participated in many professional meetings, symposia, and congresses and has published over 70 scientific papers. He has published three books: “Early detection and treatment of frequent congenital anomalies of the locomotor system” – 1985, “Indications for surgical intervention in fractures of the diaphyses of the long bones of the lower extremities of children” – 1989, “The most common diseases surgical frequency in children” – 1996. As one of the pioneers of Kosovar Surgery, he had the honor of educating and perfecting a constellation of young Kosovar surgeons.

He passed away on March 8, 1997, in Pristina.
