Prof. Dr. Rexhep Selmani is a renowned Albanian surgeon and academic with extensive expertise in general and abdominal surgery. Born on November 27, 1964, he pursued his higher education at the University Medical Faculty in Pristina, graduating with a degree in General Medicine in 1988. Continuing his education, he passed the professional exam in Belgrade in 1991, earning the title of Doctor of General Medicine.
Dr. Selmani’s pursuit of excellence led him to complete his residency and specialization in General Surgery at the University Medical Faculty in Skopje from 1995 to 2000. He further honed his skills by obtaining a subspecialization in abdominal surgery in 2018.
Throughout his career, Dr. Selmani has been associated with the Faculty of Medicine, initially as a Junior Assistant from 2008 and later as an Assistant from 2011, focusing on the subject of Surgery. His dedication to research and academic pursuits culminated in the achievement of a Master of Medical Sciences in 2011, followed by a Doctor of Medical Sciences in 2014.
Dr. Selmani’s contributions to the medical community are not limited to academia. He has served as a respected Specialist in General Surgery since 2000 and held prominent positions, such as Minister of Health of R. S. Macedonia from 2002 to 2004. Additionally, he has been part of the management board of several prominent medical institutions, including the Clinic for Digestive Surgery and the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery.
Specializing in colo-rectal-anal surgery, Dr. Selmani is currently the Head of the Department of Colo-Rectal-Anal Surgery at the University of Digestive Surgery in Skopje. Over the years, he has enriched his expertise through various training programs, such as hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and transplant surgery, laparoscopic surgery.
An active participant in the medical community, Dr. Rexhep Selmani is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the Macedonian Association of Surgeons, the Association of Albanian Doctors, and the Association of Gastroenterohepatologists of Macedonia.
