Prof. Dr. Sadri Bajraktari

Dr. Sadri Bajraktari is a General and Vascular surgeon, and Professor of General and War surgery.

He was born on June 20, 1938, in Polluzha, Rahovec. He completed primary school in his hometown and in Rahovec, while he completed high school in Prizren. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Skopje in 1964. In 1966 he was elected director of the Health Center in Rahovec. During the period 1969-74, he was a deputy in the Social-Health Chamber of the Assembly of Kosova. He finished his specialization in general surgery and his postgraduate studies in 1973 at the University of Zagreb. In 1988, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled: “Surgical treatment of venous disorders in the lower extremities.”

In academic life, he was promoted from Assistant (1975) to Docent (1989), Assistant Professor (1994) to Professor (2000) of General and War Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Prishtina. From 1991 until his retirement (2004), he was the Chief of the Vascular Surgery Service at the University Clinical Center of Kosova in Prishtina. Professor Bajraktari belongs to the golden generation of Kosovar surgeons who have laid the foundations of the Surgery Clinic and the Faculty of Medicine. After retiring he was honored with the title Professor Emeritus of the University of Prishtina.

He is the author and co-author of many scientific works. In 2003 he published the university book “Diseases of the veins”. He was the first editor-in-chief of the magazine “Kosova Journal of Surgery” – a publication of the Kosova College of Surgeons.

For the contribution given to the health service, education, and science, Professor Bajraktari has been decorated with many acknowledgments. In 1968, the Municipal Red Cross of Rahovec decorated him with the Gold Medal for his contribution to the health service. In 2004, the Department of Surgery and Orthopedics of the Faculty of Medicine in Prishtina awarded a Special Acknowledgment for the contribution given to the education of students. In 2016, he was decorated by the President of Kosova with the Presidential Medal of Merit for his contribution to education, science, and civil service.
