Prof. Ruben Peralta, MD, FACS, FCCM, FCCP

Prof. Ruben Peralta, MD, FACS, FCCM, FCCP, is the Deputy Trauma Medical Director, Senior Consultant, and the Director of the HMC Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship Program. He is graduated from the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena (UNPHU) in Santo Domingo, DR, with Honors. He trained at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Critical Care Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Critical Care Medicine, and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of several prestigious medical and surgical scientific societies.

Dr. Peralta has authored or co-authored over 300 publications, abstracts, and book chapters addressing a broad range of surgical topics. As an Academic Surgeon, Dr. Peralta has been awarded more than US$ 2 Million in competitive research grants in Qatar alone. As an educator, he has led the Trauma, Emergency, and Critical Fellowship Program, an advanced medical education, and training program of more than 52 physicians in trauma surgery, emergency, and critical care medicine in the Middle East region alone. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the prestigious Academy of Master Surgeon Educators, of the American College of Surgeons for his outstanding contributions and internationally recognized leadership in the innovation and advancement of Surgical Science and Education. He was awarded the Harald Tscherne Teaching Award 2021, by the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES), University of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland. In 2021, Dr. Peralta received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Qatar for his continued professional commitment and altruism to the Dominican diaspora and for a decade of humanitarian service to the citizens of the Dominican Republic. He is a professor of surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, and global health.
